About Shiatsu:

Shiatsu pressure points and acupuncture points are same. These points are

called “Tsubo” or “Keiketsu”. Basically, it is a kind of massage that relieves

pain, tension, fatigue, and illness by pressing therapist fingers to a specific part of

the body.

The origin of Shiatsu begins with “Teate”. Teate means touch the pain point. If

you feel pain you will touch that point.

Tokujiro Namikoshi established the original Shiatsu technique in 1925.

He said, “The heart of Shiatsu is the mother’s heart. When you press, you can awaken the spring of life.”

Shiatsu does not hurt

Some people say Shiatsu is so painful. That’s not right.

On some pressure points you can feel tenderness and pain, but if you feel too much pain then the

therapist is applying too much pressure.

When it comes to pain, there is bad pain and there is good pain. Therapists have to adjust the pressure

they apply so clients feel only the good pain.

If the client feels pain they should immediately tell your therapist. The therapist can adjust pressure to

make it more comfortable.

How to get SHIATSU licence in japan

Shiatsu therapy use to be the work of blind people. If there are many Shiatsu schools, then blind people

cannot get work. Therefore, Japan’s government no longer allows the establishment of new Shiatsu

schools. However, there are a lot of acupuncture and moxa schools in Japan.

Traditional Japanese Shiatsu requires a national certification that can be obtained after three years of

school. Currently, only about 1,000 Shiatsu practitioners are able to obtain this certification per year.

It use to be difficult to enroll in a Shiatsu school but now, with the baby bust in Japan, there are not a lot

of students.

To qualify in Japan, students study anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinetics, and oriental medicine.

Practicing Shiatsu without certification is forbidden in Japan but anyone can give a massage. They just

cannot say Shiatsu, Amma, or Massage. They can say relaxation, Thai relaxation, reflexology, etc.

Biro Shiatsu:

At Biro Shiatsu, I want your experience to be relaxing and to reduce your muscle tension, pain,

numbness, fatigue, and restore your body’s energy.

Biro Shiatsu's technique is traditional Shiatsu combined with the Amma technique and focuses on trigger point

treatment, nerve release*, and myofascial release*.

*-Nerve release: Nerves run between muscles. When the muscles are pushed apart, they cease to constrict the nerve.

*-Myofascia release: Each muscle is covered with fascia. The goal is to remove adhesion between the fascia of the muscles.

Biro Seitai:

The Japanese word Seitai means 'to bring the body in to order'.

Biro Seitai will increase your range of motion with individual muscle stretching, PNF stretching, Golgi tendon reflex, nerve releasing, nerve manipulation and ANMA SHIATSU massage.
